Wild Rice

Wild rice (Zizania palustris) is a North American native cereal grass that grows on water and provides us humans with delicious, nutritious food. People, especially indigenous peoples like the Ojibwe, have sought this rice-like grain for centuries. Despite the effort of harvest and processing, wild rice is one of the most important native foods in North America. Check out our mini documentary below to learn more about this fascinating plant and how her story intertwines into our human one.
