Description
Native to Central and Eastern North America, black chokeberry, in our opinion, is an under-utilized shrub in the garden or landscape. It has lovely white blossoms, red autumn foliage, and decently sized edible fruit. The fruit is very tart and astringent, hence the name "chokeberry". Although we've found the fresh, raw fruit to be sourly delicious if picked at the right time! You can always sweeten the berries by making them into jams, jellies, syrups, and juices.
