Bletilla striata

Bletilla striata is a clump-forming terrestrial orchid native to many parts of China and Japan. The straight species has pinkish-purple flowers and likes part sun to shade in an organically rich soil with consistent moisture. In optimum growing conditions, this orchid will slowly naturalize. Foliage dies to the ground in winter. May require heavy mulch or indoor overwintering in Zones 5 and above.
