Red valerian (or Jupiter's beard) is a flowering perennial from the Mediterranean, although it can be found naturalized on the American West Coast. It is a great choice for gardens with cool summer climates and the potential for drought. It can also tolerate low fertility of soil.
The showy flowers make a great cut flower - or leave them to attract butterflies!
I thought they’d be a bit bigger. I’m hoping to get some blooms soon, my new area needs some color!
