Cephalanthus occidentalis

Buttonbush is deciduous shrub native to many wet landscapes across North America. It can be found growing in swamps, alongside riverbanks, and on the edges of lakes. It can tolerate up to 3 feet of standing water. It needs consistent moisture at the very least.

This native shrub is known for its whimsical globular flowering bodies which are pinned by long styles. These zany balls of flowers emerge in the warmer months. Many waterfowl, birds, insects, and mammals benefit from the buttonbush.
