Description
Diospyros virginiana is a deciduous fruit tree native to the Eastern U.S. It likes dry, open woods or field edges.
It's always a joy to grow native fruit trees - even if the local fauna are the only ones eating the spoils. Some years we join in on the American persimmon forage and delight in a perfectly ripe persimmon with its gummy sweetness and jeweled appearance. Some persimmons are better than others, though, so don't be caught off guard by a cotton-mouth surprise due to the astringency.
