Common witch hazel is a deciduous large shrub or small tree that grows natively in woodlands throughout Eastern North America. It has characteristic tufts of yellow flowers that cling to (usually bare) branches in the autumn. Indeed, that's an unusual time for a plant to set flower, which makes witch hazels all the more eye-catching in the landscape.
