Description
Penstemon cobea is specific to the Great Plains and the Ozark Plateau regions of the south-central U.S. The common name "prairie beardtongue" further indicates that this particular penstemon likes a rocky prairie habitat. But penstemons are rather easy to grow; as long as P. cobea has good drainage and ample sunlight, it has an excellent chance of doing well in your garden.
P. cobea has slightly larger flowers than other species and will bloom in mid-spring.
