Penstemon grandiflorus

Our collection of beardtongues seem to be expanding! Penstemon grandiflorus is native to North America; but unlike its Eastern U.S. siblings, large beardtongue grows naturally (and sporadically) in the Midwest. It thrives in drier conditions like a rock garden or dry meadow.

What makes this species unique is its tall habit and large, showy flowers. We'll see if they attract extra attention from pollinators here on the farm. They've certainly attracted Hunter, lover of penstemons.
