Phlomis tuberosa

Phlomis is one of those plants we've spotted numerous times in UK gardens but never here back home. Phlomis tuberosa has a vast native range within Eurasia, so it probably has a good shot of doing well in our TN garden. It seems to like sunny spots with fertile, sometimes dry, soil. Amend heavy clay soils for best results.

Phlomis tuberosa blooms in late spring/early summer. It has pinky purple flowers that cling to the stem in eye-catching whorls.

The roots are edible once cooked.
