Physostegia virginiana

Obedient plant is a rhizomatous perennial native to much of North America. The common name describes the flowers which can be moved and arranged in different positions and will stay where you put them. It's a fun little trick to show people!

Unlike its compliant moniker, obedient plant can be aggressive if it likes where it's planted. With that in mind, give it lots of room to grow - maybe in a naturalistic setting like a cottage garden or wildflower border.
