Description
Mayapple, also known as American mandrake or umbrella plant, is native to rich woodlands in Eastern North America. It spreads by underground rhizomes to create gorgeous patches of distinctive umbrella-like foliage. This foliage stands out amongst the other flora on the forest floor, making it one of the first things we spot on our spring hikes.
White flowers give way to the "mayapples", which are its small fruits that ripen from green to golden yellow.
